چکیده

In this paper, we present a multithreaded approach for the automatic load balancing of adaptive nite element (FE) meshes. The platform of our choice is the EARTH multithreaded system which ooers suucient capabilities to tackle this problem. We implement the adaption phase of FE applications on triangular meshes, and exploit the EARTH token mechanism to automatically balance the resulting irregular and highly nonuniform workload. We discuss the results of our experiments on EARTH-SP2, an implementation of EARTH on the IBM SP2, with diierent load balancing strategies that are built into the runtime system.

Automatic Dynamic Load Balancing for a Crack Propagation Application

Automatic, adaptive load balancing is essential for handling load imbalance that may occur during parallel finite element simulations involving mesh adaptivity, nonlinear material behavior and other localized effects. This paper demonstrates the successful application of a measurement-based dynamic load balancing concept to the finite element analysis of elasto-plastic wave propagation and dyna...

hp-ADAPTIVE 3D FINITE ELEMENT PACKAGE

The paper presents a description of par3Dhp a 3D, parallel, fully automatic hp-adaptive finite element code for elliptic and Maxwell problems. The parallel implementation is an extension of the sequential code 3Dhp90, which generates, in a fully automatic mode, optimal hp meshes for various boundary value problems. The system constitutes an infrastructure for a class of parallel hp adaptive com...

A two dimensional Simulation of crack propagation using Adaptive Finite Element Analysis

Finite element method (FEM) is one of the most famous methods which has many applications in varies studies such as the study of crack propagation in engineering structures. However, unless extremely fine meshes are employed, problem arises in accurately modelling the singular stress field in the singular element area around the crack tip. In the present study, the crack growth simulation has b...

Dynamic load balancing for large-scale adaptive finite element computation

For the parallel computation of partial differential equations, one key is the grid partitioning. It requires that each process owns the same amount of computations, and also, the partitioning quality should be proper to reduce the communications among processes. When calculating the partial differential equations using adaptive finite element methods, the grid and the basis functions adjust in...
